What to look for on the label

Glycerin, yes or no

Glycerin provides a denser texture and a somewhat sweet sensation, but there are people prone to candidiasis who prefer to avoid it. If this is your case, look for formulas indicated as glycerin-free, which are increasingly common.

Osmolality and pH

It is the technical information that almost no one explains and that is most noticeable on sensitive skin. A lubricant with very high osmolality can be irritating with frequent use. Formulas described as isotonic or with a balanced pH, around 4.5, are those that best respect the vaginal mucosa. For anal use the reference pH is higher, close to 7.

The weak point of water-based lubricant is that it evaporates, and that's where many people conclude that it doesn't work. The solution is not to change the product, it is to reactivate it: a few drops of water on the area restore the slip without having to add more product. With a generous amount from the beginning and that occasional reactivation, it covers long sessions without problem.

Glycerin, flavor and sensations

Many water-based formulas contain glycerin, which provides softness and delays drying. For frequent use or if there is a tendency to infections, a formula without glycerin is suitable, which is lighter and also more neutral.
